History

Old River Farms and Equine Center is situated in Natchitoches, Louisiana in the heart of one of the most historical areas of the world. For years, Natchitoches has been the destination of many tourist eager to experience the beauty of the area captured in films such as the Horse Soldiers and Steel Magnolia. Home to the Natchitoches National Landmark District, the Cane River Creole Historical Park, Melrose Plantation, the former capital of Spanish Texas - Los Adaes, Kisatchie National Forest, and a host of other national treasures, Natchitoches is a destination of choice for those interested in Spanish, French, Creole, and Native American cultures. With buildings constructed in the late 1700's still in use and archeological sites dating back even further, its rich Early American and Civil War history becomes almost recent events!

Old River Farms and Equine Center is located along one of the early transportation routes, the Old Cane River. The center is within a few miles of the pristine Cane River Lake and its magnificent plantation homes and early Creole dwellings. The marvelous fragrance of magnolia, bay, and native wisteria provide a memorable experience when combined with the moss-laden cypress and the meandering waterways. We would love for you to come and visit and stay at one of the numerous small inns or bed and breakfasts while visting and/or riding your horse.

Our hope is that you and your family will enjoy our area and will feel at home...along with your horses.
